El Mirage | Glendale | Peoria | Phoenix | Sun City | Sun City Grand | Sun City West | Surprise | Youngtown | PEORIA Peoria is a rapidly growing suburban community in the northwest portion of the Valley of the Sun. Peoria is bordered on the east by Phoenix and Glendale, on the west by Sun City and on the north by Lake Pleasant. Peoria, formerly an agricultural town, is a business and medical hub of the Northwest Valley area.
Most employers in Peoria are in the commercial and service sectors. Plaza del Rio has 300 employees in its senior citizen complex/medical complex. Other large local employers include: Honeywell Flight Systems, American Express, and Bull Information Systems. Luke Air Force Base, southwest of Peoria, the largest jet fighter training base in the world, employs civilian as well as military personnel. Many of Peoria's residents commute to nearby jobs in northwest Phoenix.
The Peoria Sports Complex, a $34 million facility, is home to the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres during professional baseball's spring training season. In addition, the complex has year-round activities.
Peoria has become a business and medical hub for the Northwest Valley area. This area serves nearly 425,000 people, including residents of Glendale, Surprise, El Mirage, Sun City and Sun City West.
Ventana Lakes Located directly north of Sun City, Ventana Lakes is built around 26 acres of lakes. It also is an adult community, requiring one resident to be at least age 55 and no children under age 19.
The clubhouse has a pool, spa, fitness center, library, sauna, steam bath, lockers, showers, and a Ramada with a picnic-barbecue area. The Lakes are stocked with a variety of fish for residents who enjoy fishing.
Ventana Lakes started in the late 1980's and has single family homes and patio homes. All homes have tile roofs. The square footage runs between 1,200 and 2,000. The prices start around $90,000 and exceed $165,000 on some of the larger models.
Westbrook Village Westbrook Village is home to almost 6,300 people. It is located in Peoria, next to Sun City, and is an age-restricted community.
Westbrook Village is designed with a village concept-"neighborhoods are clustered around a central amenity core"-and Westbrook Village has its own restaurant. There are two 18-hole championship golf courses in the community, two multi-million dollar beautiful recreation centers, an Olympic-size swimming pool, several other pools, lighted tennis courts, a crafts/social center and exercise facilities. Homes run just under $100,000 to around $250,000 and condos run from the mid $90's to under $130,000.
Sun Air Estates Sun Air Estates is a small adult community in Peoria next to Sun City. Age restriction is that one adult must be at least 55 years of age. Sun Air Estates has two recreation Centers-both with swimming pools. Prices here start in the high $50,000 range and run up as high as $70,000 for condominiums and single family homes run under $70,000 to under $90,000, and square footage is approximately 1,100 to 1,350 square feet. Even though these are condominium-type associations, everyone receives a deed to his/her own property.
Country Meadows Country Meadows is not an age restricted community, but blends adult and family lifestyles together in a community of approximately 4,000 residents that offer the best of both worlds. Country Meadows has an optional recreational program that offers golf, tennis and swimming.
Housing designs include single family homes, detached patio homes and condominiums--some with golf course views. Country Meadows is located immediately south of Sun City, with its own volunteer group, the Country Meadows Prides, to care for and maintain the desert landscaping that surrounds the community.
The price range in Country Meadows starts around $48,000 on the condos and goes as high as $120,000+ for the larger single family homes. Square footage ranges from 800 on the smaller units to about 2,000 on the larger single family homes.
