SURPRISE

Surprise is in the fast-growing northwestern part of the Valley of the Sun, along U.S. 60/state Highway 93, located 18 miles northwest of Phoenix. It has a bustling population exceeding 15,000 people. Surprise has proven wrong an early homesteader who remarked that if the settlement ever became a town, it would be a "surprise."

In the past, the economy of Surprise was derived primarily from agriculture and services industry. In the very near future, manufacturing will play a major role in the city's economy. In the planning stages are a regional park situated along Beardsley Canal and ten master-planned communities. The plan is to maintain a balance between traditional, family-oriented communities and those that are age-restricted. The area north of Bell Road has been designated as the location for age-restricted neighborhoods. More than 33,600 new residential dwellings are planned for construction in the next ten years.

SUN VILLAGE

The adult community of Sun Village, located west of Sun City West, is one of the newest in the area, with about 1,383 current residents. The 47,000 square foot recreation center offers facilities for cards, billards, table tennis, sewing, woodworking, arts and crafts, as well as a fitness center, library, and beauty/barber shop. Free movies, dancing, parties and other activities are available in the spacious Kachina Ballroom. Sun Village boasts one of Arizona's largest heated swimming pools, a whirlpool spa, an 18-hole executive golf course, a pro shop, tennis courts and a restaurant.

There is a guard at the entrance 24 hours a day for security. It is comprised of single family homes, patio homes, casitas, and condos. The square footage starts around 900 and goes to 2,094 plus. Prices range from $60,000 to around $200,000.
