It has a stable population of 2,670 and is known for its mature landscaping and lower housing costs. Youngtown has easy access to the advantages of the big city, but still maintains a small town atmosphere. Over 200 businesses are located in the community, creating a ratio of almost one business per ten residents. There is no city property tax.
In 1954, the Youngtown Land and Investment Company was formed and they bought 320 acres of farmland. They built a master-planned, community designed for retirees. Youngtown was incorporated in 1960. Although Youngtown is not an age-restricted community, most of its residents are over 55 years of age.
Recreational opportunities include six golf courses, a public swimming pool and several tennis courts, all within a five-mile radius.
Youngtown offers a broad range of community facilities including a library, four parks, a clubhouse, a cactus garden and a lake. Fifteen clubs and organizations are also available.
The nearby Phoenix metropolitan area recreational opportunities are many and varied. These include: professional sports (baseball, basketball, football, ice hockey), yearly professional golf and tennis events, horse and dog racing, auto racing, cultural pursuits ranging from symphony to theater and numerous art galleries, shows and museums.
